I've been researching the arcade scripts and phpas seems to be well rated and affordable. I will likely buy shortly - just a few questions.

What kind of specs hosting-wise would you recommend in terms of bandwidth and space  - assuming I will not go higher than 150 games -  probably will use less than that. Assuming moderate traffic.

Is it possible to add some text to the home page - so I can give the search engines something to index in terms of unique content? Like welcome to my site, we offer this and that etc..

Does anyone have a phpas site or know of one that is ranking well in the se's for a decent  keyword?

Lastly, do we need to keep a copyright type link pointing at phpas?

Thanks in advance.

If you are just wanting a basic arcade, I would suggest 250MB of space. This will allow for around 150 games plus if you wanted to add a few more. As far as bandwidth goes, I suggest AT LEAST 30GB per month. I do know that Dreamhost.com does have a special for a little under $10/year if you use a special promo code that will get you more SPACE and BANDWIDTH you'll ever need. You will also need to be able to use PHP and MySQL and if you want to use SEARCH ENGINE FRIENDLY URLS you will need to be on a UNIX/LINUX based server.

Is it possible to add some text to the home page - so I can give the search engines something to index in terms of unique content? Like welcome to my site, we offer this and that etc..

In the current version you can, but you will have to manually edit the file that displays the main page. HOWEVER in v2.13 to be released in the upcoming month, there is a NEWS SYSTEM that makes it a whole lot easier (example: www.allstararcade.com)

phpAS has amazing SEO (from what I've been told).

MainEventGames.com :: MSN #10 for Bowling Games
MainEventGames.com :: MSN #10 for Spider Solitaire
TopFlashArcade.com :: Yahoo! #24 for Flash Arcade
GroovyArcade.com :: Yahoo! #2 for Free Flash Arcade
ArcadeMater.com :: Yahoo! #3 for Free Flash Arcade
Also #7, #8, #9 for Free Flash Arcade on Yahoo! are phpAS Arcades
KidsGameHouse.com :: Google #12 for Free Flash Arcade

Lastly, do we need to keep a copyright type link pointing at phpas?

No, you are not required to keep that displayed. It is appreciated if you could mention somewhere that you are using phpAS, but it is not required.

You could hire a designer to make a template for you. There are also some template that are sold in the market place on the forums which you may be interested in. Terabyte is also offering unique arcade templates for a low price (coded I think)

Hope that helps!

any hosting recommendations besides dreamhost?

main criteria is that the host has great rep

is bluehost.com good?  (they offer 400gb transfer per month and 15gb of space plus you can host 6 names in one account if you want - $95 for a year)

are there any hosts similar that have good rep and offer very large space/transfer like bluehost but a little cheaper?

The problem with hosts like that are that they seem good at first, which is where they get thier good reviews from but then they become a living nightmare. Ive had experiences with many similar hosts like globat and integrahost and they were all good at first but then turned out pretty bad and I was forced to move onto my own server. I havent tried BlueHost personally yet but what I can tell you is that cheaper isnt always better. Most hosts are overselling which causes a lot of problems such as downtime and excuses like your site used a lot of CPU.

I host my site on my own server. If you want I can set you up with a deal on my server for hosting your arcade. I know Scott and many others have said Dream Host is good so maybe go with them if you want.

I did a little research and bluehost seems to be the best reviewed host - they dont kill you if you go over the cpu etc

they are not cheap compared to other hosts i looked at though

i was gonna go with dreamhost but i read a report on the bbb and it wasnt good

what do you offer and how much do you charge?
