but google's adsense and mochiads, from what i've read  here, seem to be the most common ways to monetize the site

the above list is from:

yes, use AdSense.
Mochi is used because of games, as its revenue is almost nothing (after about 2 years using them I am with US$23.XX [and $20 from these $23 I got by referring a game developer])

Yeah, Mochi is OK if you're a developer, you make much more if you actually publish some games (speaking of which I need to get some more out myself!)

Adsense is definitely the best out of the ones I have personally, have used ad2games, cpmstar, valueclickmedia... You need to go through some trail and error to find a few that work well for your site.

Also, traffic is also a HUGE key to making money. The more you have, the more you make.

Sup Fking, welcome. If you're looking for a nice and active arcade webmaster forum, check out www.talkarcades.com. Its the best resource you can have to start your arcade.

As for your monetization question, adsense is the best. Start with them and once you get traffic then you can think about adding more ads and more companies. Scott is right, must have traffic and trying out other companies and experiementing yourself is really the only way. What works for him and me, may not work for you and what works for you, may not work for me of him, its one of those type things. Haha. Just stay away from Clicksor, the payouts are very very low and their ads sometimes contain spyware.

As for mochi if you're just a game publisher, forget about making any money and just use them to get games. Goodluck!
