I've noticed that Categories are put into a directory called "categories", like so:

whatever.com/categories/action.html

I would prefer that they either be (1) in the root directory, or (2) in their own directories:

(1) whatever.com/categories/action.html

(2) whatever.com/action

Can either 1 or 2 be done with PHPAS, and if so -- how?

what's the difference between the actual display of categories page and the number (1)?

I think you messed up the categorie number, right?
I already readed something about removing the category number (or game number ) but this is not recomended since it will overload your server to look for game information in database.
Also, I don't know how to do this change neither.
